Welcome to Our Collie Community! Here’s How You Can Join Us
We’re thrilled to have you consider becoming part of our Collie family! We offer several membership options to suit different lifestyles and interests. Here’s what you can expect:
Individual Membership: Perfect for anyone 18 or older who loves Collies! As an individual member, you’ll enjoy full access to all our club benefits, including receiving our club periodicals – “Bulletin” magazine and the annual Yearbook, the right to vote and run for a leadership role.
Joint Membership: Great for two people (both 18 or older) living at the same address, like a couple or roommates who share a passion for Collies. Both of you will have equal privileges, including receiving the same periodicals as the Individual member, one vote each, and the chance to get involved in leadership.
Junior Membership: Designed for young Collie lovers aged 9 to 17! Juniors can join for a one-time fee, enjoy our club activities, and learn more about the breed by receiving the club periodicals, but they cannot vote or hold office. When you turn 18, you can easily upgrade by applying for an Individual or Joint Membership.
Lifetime Membership: A special honor for members who’ve been with us in good standing for 50+ years! You’ll keep all the perks of an Individual Membership without paying dues—truly a lifelong celebration of your dedication to Collies.
International Membership: For our friends outside the U.S. (or its territories) who join after July 13, 2021. You’ll get to enjoy most of our club benefits by receiving the club periodicals but voting and leadership roles are reserved for U.S.-based members.
How to Become a Member
We’d love to welcome you! Here’s a simple process to follow: Fill out our easy membership application form (available on our website and updated as needed by our Board). You’ll agree to follow our Bylaws, the Code of Conduct (formally known as the Code of Ethics), and AKC rules.
- Share a bit about yourself—your name, address, and occupation—plus any other details our Board might request.
- Get support from two club members (who aren’t related to you) to sponsor you, and have your District Director endorse your application.
- Send in your dues and a small initiation fee (amounts set by the Board) with your application.
Once we receive your application, our Board will review it with a friendly vote. You’ll need a two-thirds “yes” from the Board members present at a meeting (with enough members to make it official). If approved: Applications submitted by October 31 will start right away. Applications after October 31 will begin January 1 of the next year.
Upon your acceptance into the Collie Club of America, you will receive notification from the Secretary (or assigns) by means of a ‘Welcome Letter” which will provide you with the information to enter the “Members Only” section. You’ll receive a fun membership sticker or card (designed by our Board) to show your pride. Memberships are personal and cannot be transferred. Your name and membership type will be added to our member list which is managed by our Membership Committee and Secretary.
A Note for Our International Friends
Since July 13, 2021, new members outside the U.S. will join as International Members with the perks listed above. If you were a member before that date, you’re “grandfathered” into your original membership class (Individual, Joint, Junior, or Lifetime) with full rights, including voting for and serving as the International District Director. If your membership lapses and you rejoin later, you’ll move to the International Membership class. We can’t wait to have you join our Collie community—reach out if you have questions!
