Ringside Conversations: Tri County Collie Breeders Association of Southeastern NY, Inc.

The Tri County Collie Breeders Association of Southeastern NY, Inc. hosted one of the first Ringside Conversations at their annual Specialty Show on April 18, 2026—an important early step in advancing the Collie Club of America’s new grassroots education initiative.
More than 35 attendees participated in this mini seminar, which was facilitated by Dan Cardoza, Chair of Continuing Education, and generously subsidized by the Collie Club of America, who provided a delicious pizza lunch for everyone.
The group represented a true cross section of the Collie community: longtime exhibitors, established breeders, newcomers, and even individuals who attended solely to learn and listen. Several of the breed’s top kennels—Starberry, Sealore, Milas, Hi Crest, Limerick, Maverick, and Marnus, among others—were present and contributed meaningfully to the discussion.
The topic centered on breeding practices: how breeders plan their programs, what they consider when making decisions, their most successful breedings, and the challenges and obstacles they have faced along the way. The conversation was enriched by the presence of participants from other breeds, including Australian Shepherd breeders Mary Simpson and Sarah Calter. Mary, a veterinary reproductive technician, offered valuable insights on stud dogs and reproductive management, helping create a well rounded, multi perspective dialogue.
The seminar was an overwhelming success. Feedback was enthusiastic, and attendees remained fully engaged—talking, sharing, comparing experiences, and exchanging ideas throughout. The heart of the Ringside Conversations concept is simple but powerful: everyone has a voice, everyone has something to offer, and everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard.
This event demonstrated exactly why these mini seminars matter and how they can strengthen our community through open, accessible, breed focused education.
