Do Dew Claws & Mirror Mirror
I thoroughly enjoyed both these seminars. They were new content and thought provoking.
Collie Standard Quiz Pat Caldwell
How often have we read the collie standard? Have you paid attention to repeat word use and their placement? This was enjoyable as we’ve all read our standard, but provided a different perspective based on important key words, their placement and repeat usage in the collie breed standard.
Do Dew Claws Pat Caldwell
To remove or not to remove. A discussion on the positioning, purpose, and function of dew claws. Real world examples provided of how dew claws assist in turning during herding, opening doors, escaping freezing water etc. In essence, the dew claws have a function and provide support for dogs’ activities. It should be considered an appendage and not removed.
Mirror Mirror Carrie Lenhart
What’s been learned about presenting her own dogs from judging. Using the content of the collie standard to understand the important of first impression and how you present each particular dog to the judge. Each dog may need a different style of presentation. Tools, such a mirror and video of Cavaletti Pole training, to improve presentation of your dog and to see what you are showing the judge. Use the mirror on yourself too—what are you presenting in the ring and how can you improve your skills?

Tom Coen
Mr. Coen puts on a great seminar walking down collie and sheltie history of the first influential dogs and how key kennels began in the United States. Understanding where our breeds came from to understand the key values and hallmarks of our breeds.
From there, having a complete mental picture of the key virtues outlined by the standard and hallmarks of the breed.
Lastly, Mr. Coen provided visual examples of “good ones” spanning a number of years.
